A woman formerly staying at a female recovery facility in the state of California reportedly took a stolen van and led a hours-long police chase culminating with her crossing the international boundary into Mexico on the start of the week.

Vehicle Theft Discovered from Recovery Residence

As stated in a police statement, a another female, Nicolle Walters, 45, notified authorities that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was stolen, along with her car key. The owner, who operates two women’s sober living homes, named the alleged thief as one of the residents at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately 60 minutes north-west of Los Angeles.

“My keys were stolen out of my manager’s handbag. I happened to pull up just as it was happening,” Walters stated, noting that the minivan is designated for the sobriety home’s tasks.

Dramatic Chase Unfolds Across Multiple Counties

Officials tracked the van about 12 miles north in Simi Valley, where they tried to pull the vehicle over, but Wilson refused to stop and sped away. She attained speeds of about 90mph on the 118 freeway until the chase continued into LA County. At that juncture, Ventura county authorities handed over the operation to the California highway patrol once the driver entered the Interstate 405 heading south.

“This one is very unique in the sense of the road situation enabling drivers to persist on the freeway and extend this pursuit,” commented a public information officer from the local law enforcement agency.

Wilson allegedly dodged all the spike strips deployed on the roadway by police, as documented in footage from above.

International Getaway and Aftermath Developments

The chase eventually reached the international border by 1.30pm, prompting the CHP to end its pursuit due to legal limitations.

The vehicle owner indicated on Tuesday that the minivan was situated in the Mexican city of Tijuana and that she was working with the CHP to recover the vehicle.

“At the end of the day, I’m not concerned with the vehicle,” she said. “I’m relieved aware she wasn’t hurt. The minivan is easily substituted.”

The sober living home owner, who has operated the recovery residence since last October, acknowledges that the journey toward sobriety from substance abuse and emotional distress is often non-linear.

“This represents a psychological and addiction crisis,” she said. “There is a need for additional assistance. It is essential to provide more resources for those that are struggling.”

“Recovery can be messy,” she added.
